We used the last weeks of the year to tidy up the user interface of Staffcloud. With everything neat and tidy there is nothing in the way for a great start into the new year!
No functionality was removed or added for these changes as they only affect the look and feel of the application. All changes were made pursuing the following three goals:
If two views offer the same action or information it should look and work the same. This helps in particular new users to quickly find their way around the software.
No matter how big the table, the user should always quickly understand what is what. Only a neat presentation allows for efficient work with larger amounts of data.
Efficient use of space
Staffcloud makes a point in making it possible to plan many things at once. Therefore we want to use the available space on screen as efficient as possible.
The staff planning and project management overviews have been overhauled. A new 3d effect helps recognizing projects. When hovering over an event, the corresponding project is highlighted:
Two new actions were added to project management to edit projects or events. These will help to edit multiple projects or events without losing orientation:
Actions are – as everywhere – displayed in the action bar at the bottom of the screen. Selections can quickly be undone by pressing the “Esc” key.
Staff planning subpages
All list based views under staff planning have been improved. This affects the invitation list, team sheet, work data and – where available – the live tab. The changes help making all these view feel and behave more similar and can be summarized as follows:
LRB – everything in its place
Left top is for filters – everything that changes what is displayed in the list.
Right top is for grouping and display style – how the list is displayed is controlled here.
Bottom is for actions – the action bar can be found here when items are selected.
The table head and options stick to the top of the screen to simplify orientation. This also applies to subtitles, such as single events in the team sheet, which helps with tracking the context in larger projects.
Compact and aligned
Content is organised in a single large, well-aligned table. This not only helps fitting more content on screen, but also allows to quickly select multiple or all entries.
The invitation list offers a new filter to find entries based on their assignment status. This can for example be used to communicate with everyone who has not reacted to an invitation:
The team sheet and work data filters were improved as well. The status filter on team sheet now allows to precisely pick the employees to show, while work data offers a new filter based on approval state:
Having all the information required on screen, might require quite a bit of space. Whether it’s a long list of applied people or a complex search form, space is of the essence.
Wherever possible, dynamic elements adjust to the space available. The bigger the screen the better.
Additionally some elements were adjusted to a smaller size, like the action bar or the event creation progress indicator. This leaves more space for actual content.
And there’s more…
The rendering of lists has been optimized. This not only helps the event overview, but also larger employee lists.
The neat tables are used throughout the system. Customer overview, activity log or the employee’s assignment list are more readable and faster to load.
